Sunflower husk pellets represent an innovative solution in the field of alternative heating, which is gradually gaining popularity among consumers.
Sunflower husk pellets are biofuels in the form of cylindrical granules. They are obtained from a by-product of sunflower oil production (husk makes up 11-16% of the seed weight). The process is called granulation: the raw materials are crushed, treated (with steam or hot water), and then pressed. When heated during the pressing process, the vegetable lignin, which is part of the husk, plasticizes and works as a natural binder — the granules do not crumble. After pressing, they are cooled and the crumbs are filtered out.
Sunflower husk pellets have several advantages over other types of solid fuels:

• High heat dissipation. From 17.2 MJ/kg (approximately 17,000-19,000 kJ/kg). This is higher than that of many types of wood, and comparable to some grades of coal.
• Environmental friendliness. There are no harmful impurities and chemical binders in the composition. Little harmful substances are released during combustion, and the process is considered carbon-neutral: the amount of co₂ released during combustion is comparable to what the plant absorbed during growth.
• Endurance. The granules are resistant to spillage during transportation.
• Convenience. Compact design simplifies storage and transportation.
• Cost-effectiveness. Raw materials are affordable and inexpensive, so pellets are usually cheaper than wood pellets.
